Do you have a personal or family connection with the events of those years?

Do you have any documents (eg official correspondence, private letters, diaries, pictures, etc.), stories or artefacts handed down from this period?

Would you like to meet and discuss your interests, documents, stories or artefacts with professional archivists and expert historians, in a friendly, informal setting?

Would you like to meet and chat with other members of the public who share your passion for the events of this decade?

Would you like to know more about the work of local & national historical groups that specialise in this field, many of which will be present on the day?

Would your children like to participate in a session of the roadshow specially geared to their interest in this period?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes,

A "BIG" Thank you!!!

After a very successful three-night run of
John B. Keane's "BIG MAGGIE" at the Killarney Avenue Hotel,
Dóchas Drama Group would like to express their sincere thanks to the following:

The Killarney Avenue Hotel for their generous hospitality by again providing a rehearsal and performance space,

Liam O'Connor for the loan of the tiered seating ramps,

All the businesses and people who gave us the use of props and displayed our posters,

Valerie O'Sullivan for her stunning photography,

The Media - Killarney Advertiser & Killarney Outlook, Kerry's Eye and The Kerryman, for helping to promote the event,

All our families and friends who put up with us (or rather without us) during the busiest times of pre-production.

And most of all, our audiences, who were amazing on all three nights - thank you for your continued and enthusiastic support!
We would also like to apologize to everyone who did not get a ticket - we were completely overwhelmed with the interest in this play, and unfortunately there were some people each night who could not be accommodated. We extended capacity after the first night by almost 40 seats, and still it proved insufficient - we were literally running out of chairs! We are very appreciative of the support and interest from everybody who came to the door, and the group will look into this issue for future shows.

Monday, 20 January 2014

Coming Soon - Now for three nights only!

Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances,
there will only be three evenings of shows.
There is no change of venue - The play will be shown at Killarney Avenue Hotel.
We apologize for any confusions caused.

Meet Maggie Polpin - most cold-hearted widow in the county, whose merciless nature drives away her children; and who cruelly plays with the tender feelings of those closest to her...
Or is she?
Maggie is in fact a most compelling character, set against her own spectrum of uncompromising and controlling relationships; challenging those around her to constantly re-assess their own truths.
Although set in 1960s rural Ireland, John B. Keane's "Big Maggie" touches on familiar complexities which timelessly connect the modern audience with this classic piece, and thus explain the huge popularity of the play.
Depicted with a hue of darkness, and steeped in witty observations of our fellow human beings as only John B. can paint them, "Big Maggie" makes for a great night's entertainment - don't miss it!

DLI Workshop: The Anatomy of Acting

 (image: google)

Yesterday, 16th November, six Dóchas members took part in an exciting workshop organized by the Drama League of Ireland http://www.dli.ie
The workshop was held in Tralee by the well known and very experienced Actor/ Director/ Acting Teacher (Gaiety School of Acting) DAVID SCOTT.
Members from six other local Drama Groups also attended, in total 21. Minister Jimmy Deenihan kindly opened the day, with sincere wishes for the continued success and emphasising the importance of Amateur Drama in Ireland. He praised the hard work of volunteers such as Joanne Keane and Anne Makitarian for DLI, who were both present on the day, giving information and answering questions.
The workshop was as usual of very high standard, the information and tips given by David will prove invaluable in our next production and beyond. Thank you!
